Over 2 lakh youth ‘officially’ unemployed in Gujarat
Business-driven Gujarat is grappling with unemployment, if the figures released by the Gujarat government in the assembly are anything to go by.
In response to a question posed by a Congress MLA in the assembly recently, the Gujarat government stated that there are 2,38,978 educated unemployed and 10,757 semi-educated unemployed registered in 29 districts of the state. The highest number of educated unemployed are registered in Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Anand, Dahod, and Surendranagar.
The government has acknowledged that only 32 educated youths have been able to secure government jobs in Gujarat in the past two years.
While the youth of Ahmedabad have had some success with government jobs, youths in over 22 other districts have not.
Despite the government’s claims of offering employment opportunities, the reality is that the recruitment schedule exists only on paper. This has resulted in educated youth forced to work in private companies at lower salaries.
A recent viral video of hundreds of youth jostling for jobs at a private firm in Ankleshwar has shown a picture of the unemployment scene in the state.
The rush of candidates was so intense that the railings crashed. The incident gained national attention, with Rahul Gandhi attacking the BJP on X, describing unemployment as an epidemic in BJP-ruled states.
