More than 2.79 crore Ayushman cardholders have received free medical treatment in Gujarat under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) since its implementation in 2018, according to the state’s Health Department.

The initiative has provided critical financial relief for complex treatments. PMJAY has funded over 6 lakh heart surgeries amounting to ₹4,252.28 crore, and supported 17 lakh cancer patients with ₹4,016.42 crore for chemotherapy and radiation.

Additionally, ₹1,465.84 crore was spent on dialysis for 7 lakh patients, and ₹74.65 crore was allocated for over 12,000 kidney and liver transplants. Ensuring inclusive care, the department also facilitated cochlear implants for 124 hearing-impaired children, costing ₹5 crore.

To ensure widespread access, 1,981 hospitals—comprising 1,112 government and 869 private institutions—have been paneled under the scheme, covering over 2,400 medical procedures.

Marking the completion of 12 years of the Central Government under Prime Minister Modi, Minister of State for Health Praful Panseria highlighted that Gujarat has set a national benchmark by doubling its health insurance cover to ₹10 lakh per family.
