In a remarkable display of public participation and environmental commitment, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) in a four-day campaign, the collective efforts of more than 20,300 citizens resulted in the successful removal of 198 tonnes of waste.

The mega cleanliness drive organised the ‘Swachh Sabarmati Maha-abhiyan’ turned into an inspiring model of civic engagement, social responsibility, and environmental awareness. On World Environment Day alone, more than 7,000 citizens actively participated, collecting and removing 56 tonnes of garbage from the Sabarmati Riverfront in a single day.

People from diverse sections of society — including residents, volunteers, students, and community groups — united on a common platform with a shared goal of transforming the Sabarmati into a clean and pollution-free riverfront.

On the very first day, over 7,500 enthusiastic citizens turned up in large numbers, demonstrating strong public support for the initiative. Together, they collected approximately 68 tonnes of waste from the Sabarmati riverbed, marking a promising beginning to the campaign.
