More than 100 people fell ill in a suspected case of food poisoning in Gomta village of Wadhwan in Surendranagar district of Gujarat after they consumed buttermilk (chhas) at a vastu puja event (ritual performed to harmonise a new place with the principles of Vastu Shastra).

The people affected suffered from diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, and leg cramps, as per reports.

The event was hosted by one Mahesh Patel of the village for the new house. Over 600 people were served food at the event.

Initially, the affected people were shifted to nearby private clinics for treatment. As their symptoms worsened, they were shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Surendranagar, RR Hospital in Limbdi, and nearby government hospitals for treatment.

Authorities, including the health officials, rushed to the spot, and a thorough investigation was initiated in the matter. As many as six teams were kept on standby to ensure that all the victims got treatment in the village itself.
