The dial 112 Jan Rakshak emergency service in Ahmedabad city has received more than 100,000 calls between September 2025 and January 31, 2026, highlighting the growing reliance on the unified emergency response system for quick assistance.

According to data presented in Gujarat Legislative Assembly,  public nuisance topped the list with 32,099 calls, accounting for nearly 32% of the total volume. This was followed by 18,339 calls related to crimes against the human body, 9,422 calls concerning crimes against women, over 7,000 calls linked to property-related issues, and 9,755 calls reporting accidents.

The dial 112 service, part of the national Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) under the Jan Rakshak Project in Gujarat, integrates multiple emergency services into a single accessible number. It is managed in coordination with EMRI Green Health Services (formerly GVK EMRI) and aims to provide rapid response for police, ambulance, fire, women and child helplines, and disaster management.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated the Jan Rakshak projects under dial 112 in Ahmedabad in August 2025. Describing it as a visionary initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah emphasised its role in strengthening internal security, protecting citizens' rights, maintaining law and order, and delivering timely emergency aid.

Prior to the launch, citizens often faced confusion with multiple toll-free numbers — 100 for police, 108 for ambulance, 101 for fire, 181 for women’s helpline, 1098 for child helpline, and others for disasters. The new system allows people to access all security-related services by simply dialing 112, ensuring faster coordination and response.
