1.02 crore face poverty in ‘vibrant’ Gujarat
With 16.52% of Gujarat's population battling poverty, statistics show that the number of people below poverty line has reached 1.02 crore in the state. The poverty line is estimated at per capita per day at ₹26 for rural areas, and ₹32 for urban areas.
According to a report presented in Parliament, in rural areas, 75.35 lakh people (21.54%) are living below poverty line, whereas in urban areas, that number is 26.88 lakh (10.14%).
1,359 families fell below poverty line in two years
The state government admitted that 1,359 families have fallen below the poverty line in Gujarat in the past two years. Among the districts, Sabarkantha, Panchmahal, Banaskantha, Anand, Junagadh, and Dahod have the highest number of such families.
