Tensions flared between two communities in Junagadhi, leading to stone-pelting and a road blockade

In Vadodara city’s Yakutpura Junigadhi area, a man created an AI-generated post that allegedly hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community and made it viral on social media. Following this, tensions and misunderstandings spread across the locality, leading to widespread anger among residents.

A large number of people from the Muslim community took to the streets late Friday night. Soon, groups from the other community also gathered, which escalated into stone-pelting between the two sides. Considering the seriousness of the matter, Additional Police Commissioner Dr Leena Patil, along with the DCP, ACP, PI, PCB, DCB, SOG, and local police forces, rushed to the spot with heavy deployment. The police dispersed the crowd and tried to bring the situation under control.

After the incident, a large number of Muslim community members reached the city police station demanding the immediate arrest of the accused, along with strict legal action, including externment. After filing a police complaint, the crowd cleared the road. Reports suggest that one police personnel was injured during the incident.

To prevent the situation from worsening, the entire area was turned into a police cantonment late at night. Due to stone-pelting, one policeman was injured.

Subsequently, a large crowd from the minority community reached the city police station demanding legal action against the individual responsible and calling for his arrest, along with PASA (Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act) and externment proceedings. Once police assured them that a complaint had been registered, the mob dispersed. Yakutpura’s Junigadhi area was effectively converted into a police stronghold late at night. The police even deployed drones to monitor the situation closely.

Speaking to the media about the incident, Vadodara Police JCP Dr Leena Patil said, “The legal process regarding the case is already underway and appealed to citizens not to spread any kind of rumors. She further added that police are monitoring social media closely, and if anyone engages in such activities, strict legal action will be taken against them. Citizens are advised to be cautious before sharing or forwarding any such messages, as the police are keeping watch everywhere, and any attempt to create a provocative atmosphere will be dealt with firmly.”
