‘Operation Sindoor’ circle pops up in Surat overnight, speculations over SMC permit
A circle depicting ‘Operation Sindoor’ has reportedly been constructed in Surat even before formal permission was granted by the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), sparking controversy in the city.
The issue came to light after a letter written by Member of Parliament Mukesh Dalal went viral. In the letter, dated June 3, Dalal had requested permission from the SMC to construct a commemorative circle at one of several proposed locations: Adajan Prime Arcade, Surat-Hazira Main Road, Morabhagal Cross Road, Subhash Chandra Bose Garden Cross Road, or any suitable spot along the Adajan-Rander route.
However, before the SMC reportedly granted any official permission, a video began circulating online showing a completed circle structure themed around Operation Sindoor at one of the above mentioned place. This sudden appearance of the circle has raised questions about whether proper procedures were followed.

The proposed installation is intended as a tribute to the Indian Army’s strong response to the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians lost their lives. The MP had recommended constructing a symbolic circle featuring visuals of the armed forces and equipment used in Operation Sindoor as a mark of honour and remembrance.
Now, residents and leaders in the city are questioning how the circle was built without municipal approval. A complaint has reportedly been raised regarding the unauthorised construction.
The circle, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked a wave of reels and online posts. The fact that a letter requesting permission was dated after the structure was already built has already raised a lot of questions.
