Some senior leaders not even capable of winning a booth: Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday reached Modasa in Aravalli during his second day of visit to Gujarat.
Speaking at the Congress District Workers Convention in Modasa, Gandhi said, “Congress is working to grow stronger. It is a war of ideologies. Only Congress can defeat BJP and RSS and its route goes through Gujarat.”
Gandhi addressed the convention in Modasa among 1,200 district workers. Gujarat Congress leaders Shaktisinh Gohil and Amit Chavda were among those present at the convention.
Decentralisation of power
Emphasising on giving more power to the party presidents of each district, Gandhi said, “Rather than managing everything from Ahmedabad, the party should give more power to the president of each district.”
He said, “He said, “We want a connection between the organisation and those contesting elections. These days, what happens is that the Congress organization helps someone win an election, and once that person becomes an MLA or MP, they forget the organisation and say, ‘You do your work, and I’ll do mine.’ So now, we will select candidates through the organisation. This is our pilot project in Gujarat. It will be tested in Gujarat because Gujarat is the most important state for us. Our fight is one of ideology, and we will fight and win that battle in Gujarat.”
Takes a jibe at senior leaders
Speaking about the senior leaders in the Congress, Gandhi said that many such leaders in the party have established themselves as senior leaders but are not even capable of winning a booth. Therefore, we want to empower those who have a strong presence at the booth level.
“We want to bring a new generation into the Congress. Among this crowd, some leaders are connected to the people, and we want to promote them. There are also some leaders in this crowd who have mingled with the BJP — we will identify them and lovingly show them the way out,” LoP said.
While addressing a meeting on Tuesday, Gandhi mentioned that a list of Congress workers will be made who are involved with BJP.
“Congress has decided to appoint the district president and district committee by May 31. A list of leaders should be formed who are involved with BJP. Our main fight is with the BJP, not amongst ourselves,” said Gandhi.
Gandhi addressed a senior leaders' meeting in Modasa ahead of the convention. He will arrive in Ahmedabad today at 3 pm to depart for Delhi.
