A government officer refused to act on the request of a ruling BJP legislator, insisting that road repairs would only be carried out upon receiving a written complaint.

Ramesh Chavda, BJP MLA from Kadi, had called Deputy Engineer Ojas Patel of the Roads & Buildings Department to demand urgent filling of potholes in his constituency. However, the officer bluntly replied, “Just because you make a phone call doesn’t mean potholes will be filled. Submit it in writing.”

The exchange, which quickly escalated into a heated argument, has since gone viral on social media.

Heavy monsoon rains have badly damaged roads across Gujarat, leaving citizens frustrated. Even BJP lawmakers say their repeated complaints to officials have yielded little action, fueling public anger against elected representatives.

MLA Chavda, who was responding to complaints from local taluka panchayat members, put his call on the speaker and demanded immediate action. But Patel said that only a written request would be considered. The MLA said that as he is issuing orders to repair it, which the officer declined.
