The Gujarat government’s drive to recruit professionals through institutes, a centralised common placement programme organised every year by the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG) for higher education students, saw a registration of more than 88,000 candidates but could only provide jobs to around 11,000 of them, registering a massive snag in its operations.
The placement camp was organised under the state’s higher education department at 28 different locations from Feb 20 to Mar 19.
In an overall dull turnout, only 15,335 students were present for this camp, while a mere 23,758 interviews were conducted in total.
Combining the placement camp and pre-selection rounds, only 11,434 students have been selected, registering a meagre 13% result in this state-administered process.
This camp saw registrations from 88,193 students studying in the final year of 469 universities and colleges from 33 districts across the state.
However, students from 410 institutions turned up at the placement camp.
A total of 2,714 companies from various sectors had registered to participate, while companies from 49,619 different locations had registered their recruitment vacancies.
However, representatives of a mere 755 companies were present for the interviews.
The placement process also had to be cut short by a few days due to the imposition of the moral code of conduct (MCC) after the Lok Sabha election dates were announced on Mar 16.
Every year, the placement drive continues until April.
