Only 12% clear Gujarat TET-1 exam for primary school teachers out of 91,000 aspirants

The results of the Teacher Eligibility Test-1 (TET-1) for primary school teachers in Gujarat have revealed a high failure rate, with nearly 88% of candidates failing to qualify.
The examination, conducted by the Gujarat State Examination Board on December 21 for teachers of Classes 1 to 5, saw only 11,027 candidates pass out of the 91,628 who appeared. This translates to an overall pass percentage of 12.03%.
Under the rules of the Gujarat Education Department, appointments in government and government-aided schools are made solely on the basis of performance in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and the Teacher Aptitude Test (TAT). Clearing TET-1 is mandatory for aspiring teachers of Classes 1 to 5 in primary schools.
A total of 1,01,525 candidates had registered for the TET-1 examination, which was held from 12 noon to 2 pm across centres in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot. Of these, 91,628 candidates appeared for the test.
Medium-wise results showed that, out of 88,659 candidates, 10,825 passed, recording a pass rate of 12.21%. In the Gujarati medium, 98 candidates cleared the examination, reflecting a pass rate of 8.90%, while in the English medium, 104 candidates passed, with a pass percentage of 5.57%.
The exam was conducted for a total of 150 marks. Only one candidate, from the Gujarati medium, scored between 141 and 150 marks. Three candidates secured marks in the 121–140 range. According to the score distribution, 4,141 candidates scored between 90 and 100 marks, 7,460 between 82 and 89, 43,136 between 60 and 81, 33,826 between 40 and 59, and 2,257 candidates scored between 1 and 39 marks.
As per the qualifying criteria, candidates belonging to reserved categories and the PwD category were declared successful if they secured at least 82 marks, while candidates from other categories were required to obtain a minimum of 90 marks to pass.
