Online-only admission for students through GCAS portal, Gujarat govt orders colleges

The admission process for colleges under government-run universities across Gujarat is currently underway through the GCAS (Gujarat Centralised Admission System) portal, which has been launched by the government for centralised and transparent admissions into government colleges.
However, some colleges offering offline process to student has created confusion among parents.
In response, the Commissioner of Schools issued a clear directive– no offline admissions will be permitted. All colleges must conduct the admission process strictly through the GCAS portal, and institutions have been warned not to mislead or confuse parents.
Colleges must adhere to the official system, the commissioner stated, adding that strict action will be taken against institutions found violating the guidelines.
On the admission front, despite more than 2.10 lakh students registering on the GCAS portal, the actual admission figures remain underwhelming, especially for Gujarat University.
Of the 66,000+ undergraduate (UG) seats available, only 12,942 students have confirmed their admissions after the first three rounds. This is in sharp contrast to the over 58,000 students who had selected Gujarat University as a preferred choice during registration.
