With Gujarat receiving 140% of its seasonal rains during this monsoon season, the farmers have suffered massive losses of crops and land. A month after the heavy rains that ravaged the state, the agricultural department is yet to complete its survey to distribute the compensations to the farmers.

Moreover, the issue of land erosion due to excessive rains has not once come up from the government, leading to stress among the farmers about the compensations coming to them.

Crops including cotton, groundnut, and vegetables have been damaged to a great extent due to heavy rains in July-August.

The government of Gujarat had announced an aid of ₹350 crore after the rains, however, it is yet to reach the beneficiaries.

It has also been announced that only the farmers who have suffered more than 33% damage can apply for compensation. Farmers with damaged irrigated lands will be paid ₹44,000, while farmers with non-irrigated lands will be paid a compensation of ₹22,000.

Farmers also allege to reduce the amount of compensation provided, affected lands are deliberately categorised as non-irrigated instead of irrigated.
