Necessity is the mother of invention, they say, and gamblers in Gujarat have devised a unique way to hoodwink the cops by keeping their illegal activity moving. However, their novel venture hit a roadblock when they were intercepted and 42 people were apprehended.
Acting on a tip-off, Kheda Local Crime Branch (LCB) and Special Operations Group (SOG) police intercepted an Eicher truck. A checkpost was set up on the highway and the truck with a registration plate ‘GJ-38 TA 1551’ was intercepted on Mahudha-Dakor road near a railway signal. Upon questioning, it was revealed that people inside the truck were involved in gambling activities.
A total of 42 people were apprehended. Preliminary investigation revealed that the illicit operation was prevalent on the Dholka Galteshwar route via Kheda, Mehsana, Mahemdavad, and Mahudha.
The police seized a total of ₹1,55,490 in cash, ₹9,230 in counterfeit currency, 7 mobile phones, and the truck. The total amount of the seizure was declared to be ₹4,72,720.
