Old woman’s body found decomposed in Sayaji hospital, family protests
A serious incident happened at Vadodara’s Sayaji hospital (Sir Sayajirao General Hospital) where the body of a 70-year-old woman was found decomposed after being kept in the hospital’s cold room for two days. The family held a protest and demanded justice.
The deceased, Ranjanben Hetkumar Vyas, was a resident of the Sardar Bhavan area. She was taken to a private hospital on April 27, 2026 after her health worsened, where doctors declared her dead. Since her son and daughter-in-law live in America, the family decided to keep the body in the hospital’s cold storage until they returned to India for the last rites.
However, when the family came to collect the body at around 8.30 am, they were shocked to see that the body had decomposed badly. This led to anger and chaos among family members. According to the family, the hospital staff kept the body in the wrong drawer.
They claimed it was placed in drawer number three instead of drawer number one. They also said that another body was found in the assigned drawer, and after searching, Ranjanben’s body was found in a different place.
The family accused the hospital of negligence and said the condition of the body did not allow them to take it home and they were forced to take it to the crematorium.
The incident has raised serious questions about the hospital’s management and handling of dead bodies.
