After the fake PMO and CMO in Gujarat, a fake deputy collector, Neha Patel, has been caught by the authorities. This adds to the growing list of imposter officials in Gujarat, this time from Surat’s Mandvi.

She posed herself as an authority for land acquisition in Narmada’s Statue of Unity and scammed the farmers.

Reportedly, she took ₹22.88 lakh from a farmer named Ram Chaudhary. In Surat, too, she scammed a builder of lakhs. She also posed as a DySP in Dediapada, scamming lakhs of rupees from people in lieu of government jobs.

Panjrapol land in Mulasana not made ‘Sri Sarkar’ yet

The special investigation team (SIT) was appointed to investigate the Mulasana panjrapol land scam. However, sources suggest that the probing is going on at a snail’s pace, and the land still remains to be acquired by the government to find the next farmer-tenant, i.e. to be made ‘Sri Sarkar’.

Many believe that the sluggish pace at which the investigation is being conducted points at the involvement of some big names, who are deliberately being shielded.

1,470 marriages registered in a village of 1,500 people

4,130 fake marriages have been registered in Anand, Amreli, Banaskantha, and Kheda districts, revealed statistics revealed by Lalji Patel, the head of the Sardar Patel Group (SPG).

According to sources, these marriages have been registered without any rituals being performed. In fact, the Rela village of Anand districts saw 1,470 registered marriages by talati Arvind Makwana, whereas the population of the village is merely 1,500!

These numbers are from certain districts only, but many believe that the scam may be state-wide if investigated further.

A game of chess for party politics

The infamous ‘pamphlet’ controversy in Gujarat’s BJP continues to echo in the party’s internal politics. Ex-minister Ganpat Vasava was implicated  in the controversy, and according to reports, he had issued an apology to CR Patil and the party.

Now, Rakeshsinh Solanki, considered a close aide to Vasava, has been under the police’s radar in a ₹68 lakh embezzlement case in the Tarsadi milk manufacturing company. Sources state that Solanki was under remand for 14 days, but Vasava managed to bring it down to 2 days.

The internal political murmur suggests that party stalwarts are cornering Solanki to subdue Vasava.

A site of historic importance in danger?

Ranjit Hazare, son of the cricket legend Vijay Hazare, has written to the prime minister and requested him to stop the demolition of the Pushpakoot bungalow where cricketer Vijay Hazare lived in Vadodara and turn it into a cricket museum.

Earlier, a trust in Vadodara had sought a stay in the High Court, but it was not granted. Local organisations became active to save the bungalow after the law department permitted to demolish it last year. Sources indicate that the bungalow has an interest from a builder with strong ties to a BJP politician.

The bungalow was sold to the state government in 1978. This bungalow used to be the office of the charity commissioner but later the government ceased its use.
