Ramol Police arrested a 39-year-old man from Morbi and seized 16.130 kg of ganja worth ₹8.06 lakh from two trolley bags near the Ramol Expressway toll plaza in Ahmedabad on October 29. The accused was allegedly transporting the consignment from Odisha to Morbi for a commission of ₹6,000 per kg.

Police seized the contraband, valued at ₹8,06,500, along with other items, taking the total value of the seized property to ₹8,17,700. An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.

Two Trolley Bags Contained 16 Plastic Packets of Ganja

According to police, officers were conducting vehicle checks in plain clothes near the Expressway toll plaza on the morning of October 29 when they noticed a man walking suspiciously with two trolley bags.

They intercepted him and conducted a search. The bags, belonging to Skybags and Safari brands, contained 16 plastic packets filled with suspected ganja. A preliminary examination by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officer at the spot confirmed that the substance appeared to be cannabis.

The accused was identified as Bhavik Dhanjibhai Kanjibhai Mordiya, 39, a resident of Morbi who is associated with the hotel business.

Odisha Supplier Promised ₹6,000 Commission Per Kg

During questioning, Mordiya allegedly revealed that he had procured the ganja for ₹80,000 from Ashwini Bag, a resident of Balangir in Odisha.

The consignment was reportedly meant to be delivered to Pankaj alias Dhaval Ganeshbhai Fefar, a resident of Mahendranagar in Morbi. Mordiya was allegedly promised a commission of ₹6,000 per kg for transporting the contraband.

Police have registered a case against the alleged Odisha supplier, the intended recipient in Morbi and other persons involved in the racket. PI Pratikumar N. Zinzuwadia is reportedly leading the further investigation.

New Trolley Bag Purchase in Odisha Led Police to a Clue

Investigators also recovered a purchase bill worth ₹3,499 from Vishal Mega Mart in Balangir, Odisha. The bill indicated that the accused had purchased a trolley bag from the store.

According to the investigation, Mordiya had allegedly bought a new green Safari trolley bag specifically to transport the ganja from Odisha to Gujarat.

He reportedly travelled by train or private bus to Vadodara before planning to switch vehicles on the Expressway and continue towards Morbi via Ahmedabad. However, his journey ended when Ramol Police intercepted him while he was walking near the toll plaza with the two bags.
