The Odhav police have solved a previously unsolved burglary case with the arrest of three members of a gang accused of breaking shop shutters at night and stealing metal scrap from an industrial estate.

Police recovered 1,525 kg of scrap comprising aluminium, steel, iron and copper, valued at around ₹1.67 lakh, along with an Eicher vehicle used in the crime worth ₹12 lakh. The total value of the seized property stands at ₹13.67 lakh.

According to the police, the breakthrough came on January 24 during a patrol by the Survey Squad under the Odhav police station, carried out to prevent property-related offences and detect past crimes. Acting on specific inputs received during the patrol, the team intercepted three men who were found transporting metal scrap covered with a tarpaulin.

The arrested accused have been identified as Rohit Patni, Mahesh Patni (also known as Popatwala), and Kunal Patni (also known as Poptawala), all residents of different localities in the city.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that on the night before Uttarayan, they had driven the Eicher vehicle to an industrial estate in the Odhav–Singharwa area, broken open the shutter of a shop and stolen metal scrap stored inside. The stolen material was then loaded into the vehicle and transported away, police said.

An offence has been registered at the Odhav police station under Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The police said further legal action has been initiated and efforts are on to ascertain whether the accused were involved in similar offences elsewhere.

Police records show that the arrested men have previous criminal cases registered at different police stations in the city, including cases related to theft and violations under the BNS and other laws.Odhav police crack night-time burglary in shop, recover 1500 kg of scrap, 3 arrested
