Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the alleged NEET examination paper leak, Gujarat NSUI had planned to launch a peaceful but aggressive protest movement in Gandhinagar from Tuesday in support of students demanding justice. The organisation had announced an indefinite hunger strike at the Satyagraha Chhavani in the state capital following what it described as growing concerns over the future of NEET aspirants.

However, before the protest could begin, police detained several NSUI workers in Viramgam early in the morning, preventing them from reaching Gandhinagar. The police action was reportedly taken to avoid escalation of the protest and maintain law and order.

As per the pre-announced programme, the indefinite fast was scheduled to begin at 9:00 am on May 19 at the Satyagraha Chhavani in Gandhinagar. NSUI had also appealed to NEET students and their parents from across Gujarat to join the agitation in large numbers.

NSUI spokesperson Sudhir Raval alleged that despite the protest being organised with permission, police detained party workers in Viramgam before they could reach the protest site. He claimed that due to the detentions, activists as well as parents were unable to gather at Gandhinagar, leading to the agitation being stalled.

The protest was aimed at demanding accountability and action in connection with the alleged NEET paper leak case, which has triggered outrage among students and parents across the country.
