A wanted history-sheeter with more than two dozen criminal cases registered against him was injured in the leg during a Crime Branch arrest operation after he allegedly attempted to attack police personnel while resisting arrest in the Sola High Court Police Station jurisdiction in Ahmedabad.

The accused, identified as Dharmendra Singh alias Dhamo, son of Abhesinh Jawansinh Barad, was wanted in connection with an attempt-to-murder case registered at Krishnanagar Police Station, police said.

A team of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch had launched an operation to apprehend the accused when he allegedly put up violent resistance and attempted to assault members of the police team.

Police said a physical scuffle ensued during the operation, following which a pistol discharged, injuring the accused in the leg. The accused was subsequently overpowered and taken into custody.

Officials stated that the accused had been actively wanted by police in a recent attempt-to-murder case linked to Naroda Police Station.

Extensive criminal record spanning multiple police stations

Investigators described Dharmendra Singh alias Dhamo as a notorious and habitual offender with a long criminal history involving serious offences such as murder, attempt to murder, extortion, dacoity, rioting, arms offences and prohibition-related crimes.

Police records indicate that as many as 26 offences have been registered against him across several police stations in Ahmedabad and adjoining areas over the past decade.

A majority of the cases, 18 in total were registered at Krishnanagar Police Station and include offences under sections related to attempt to murder, robbery, criminal intimidation, rioting, criminal conspiracy and illegal possession of weapons.

Among the major offences registered against the accused are cases under of the BNS for attempt to murder, Section for dacoity, and multiple offences under the Arms Act and Gujarat Prohibition Act.

Police said the accused was also booked in a murder case registered at Bapunagar Police Station in 2017 under IPC Section along with charges of attempt to murder and illegal possession of firearms.

Additional cases have been registered against him at Nikol Police Station, DCB Police Station, Dabhoda Police Station and Vivekanand Police Station.

Police records further show that the accused has previously been booked in extortion and criminal intimidation cases, including offences involving alleged threats and organised violent activities.

The accused is currently under medical supervision following the injury sustained during the operation. Police official said further investigation is underway to ascertain his involvement in recent criminal activities and identify any associates linked to him.
