No roads, no facilities: Pregnant woman dies during childbirth in Chhotaudepur
Updated: Oct 2nd, 2024
A pregnant woman from Turkheda village in Chhotaudepur lost her life during childbirth due to the lack of proper road access. This incident has raised serious concerns about the state’s healthcare system and the so-called ‘Gujarat Model’ of development.
The woman, experiencing labour pains early in the morning of October 1, had to be carried by local villagers by making a cloth stretcher for five kilometres before they could find any means of transportation.
Tragically, she gave birth en route, but without immediate medical care, the mother had lost her lives. Despite desperate efforts to save the mother, she succumbed to complications before reaching the hospital.
The absence of roads in Turkheda village, makes it nearly impossible for residents to access medical facilities in a timely manner.
In yet another incident, a pregnant woman in Rajkot on October 1, delivered her baby in the courtyard of a hospital, further exposing the flaws in the state’s healthcare system. Although hospital authorities have denied any negligence, the incident has sparked concerns about the adequacy of healthcare infrastructure in Gujarat.
