A woman from Ankleshwar in Gujarat consumed poison outside Swarnim Sankul-1 in Gandhinagar on Monday after allegedly failing to receive ration despite repeated complaints.
Shital Malaviya arrived with her husband and two children to submit a representation regarding irregular foodgrain supply despite holding a ration card. According to family members, local officials had not addressed their long-pending complaints.
Around 4 pm, she reportedly consumed a toxic substance, after which security personnel rushed her to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital. Doctors said she had consumed rodent poison and is currently stable.
As per the family, they had been struggling for food for weeks, stating that they had “nothing left to eat” at home. The incident has raised questions about local administrative lapses and the implementation of food distribution schemes.
Authorities said an inquiry has been initiated.
