After being put on hold for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra was scheduled to commence this year. However, whether the Yatra will be possible or not for Gujaratis is a looming question.
Since 26 days, around 700 pilgrims from Gujarat have obtained permits to travel to Kailash Mansarovar from Tibet's capital city, Lhasa, but not a single visa to China has been issued.
No visa even after 26 days of receiving permit
Generally, the visa to travel to China is issued after three to four days of getting the permit. And the pilgrim group in Gujarat, consisting of 700 people or more, had already submitted the group list to the tour operator in Nepal, who had obtained a permit for them to travel to Kailash Mansarovar from Tibet's Lhasa. But even after 26 days, the group has not been granted a visa to travel to China.
Gujaratis deprived of Holy Mansarovar Yatra
This obstruction in the pilgrimage is seen as a worrisome event, as nearly three thousand pilgrims travel every year to the holy Kailash Mansarovar located in China's Tibet. A letter has also been written to the Foreign Ministry of India regarding this issue.
Gujarat government announced subsidy for Yatris
Earlier this month, Gujarat government increased the amount of incentive subsidy provided for pilgrims travelling to Kailash Mansarovar. The subsidy amount had been raised from ₹23,000 to ₹50,000 per pilgrim.
