Traffic issues in Ahmedabad are becoming increasingly severe. To address this, the police have implemented several measures, including issuing e-memos and conducting various drives. Now, the traffic police have taken a significant decision to control wrong-side driving, under which offenders will face legal action.

Previously punishable with a fine, the offence will now lead to an FIR against the drivers, and the police may seize the vehicle, as per reports.

As part of strict enforcement measures to ease traffic congestion in the city, the police have registered over 2 lakh cases in the past 20 days, collecting fines amounting to approximately ₹13.21 crores. However, despite these efforts, issues like wrong-side driving and left-free violations persist.

In response, the traffic police have now decided to register criminal cases against motorists violating traffic rules instead of just imposing fines. Officials from all traffic police stations in the city have been instructed to begin enforcement at wrong-side violation points within their respective jurisdictions.
