The holy tradition of ‘Lili Parikrama’ in the forests of Girnar has turned tragic as nine pilgrims died of heart attacks in three days.
Lili Parikrama (translated: green circumambulation), a 36-km-long journey that commenced on Nov 11 holds spiritual significance for Mount Girnar, located in the Junagadh district of Gujarat.
On the first two days, seven pilgrims, including three from Rajkot, died of heart attacks at various locations in Bhavnath Taleti and various routes of the forest.
On Tuesday, Arun Tailor (55) from Mumbai and an elderly man named Natvarlal from Ahmedabad died of heart attacks.
While the reports mentioned the death of a person on Wednesday, it was not registered on official record.
Anil Ranavasiya, collector of Junagadh inspected the facilities provided to the pilgrims on the Parikrama route and advised the pilgrims not to walk continuously and to take rest in-between.
A surgeon of Civil Hospital advised to contact the medical team on the route if chest pain or restlessness occurs.
