Parts of Ahmedabad received rainfall around Saturday afternoon, with heavy showers for about two hours. In Nikol and Odhav areas, one inch of rain fell within an hour, leading to waterlogging of 1.5 to 2 feet on roads. The worst situation was witnessed around the Odhav fire station.

From 6 am to 8 pm, the city recorded an average of 10.88 mm of rainfall, taking the season’s total to 17.18 inches. Around 2 pm, rain began in Odhav, Nikol, Viratnagar, and surrounding eastern Ahmedabad areas, with Nikol receiving 25 mm and Odhav 16 mm in just one hour.

Despite the moderate rainfall, Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)’s inefficiency was once again exposed as Nikol and Odhav roads were submerged under 1.5 to 2 feet of water. Local residents recorded videos exposing the civic body’s failures and shared them on social media in anger.

Near Revdi Bazaar in Kalupur area around 7 pm, the artificial facade attached to the front of a building collapsed onto the road, damaging a rickshaw. Traffic on the road was temporarily halted, trapping many vehicles. One tree each was uprooted in Danapith and Dudheshwar areas.

As the artificial facade fell in Revdi Bazar, bricks also fell onto the road, blocking traffic and causing long vehicle queues in the area. Even in such normal rainfall, residents’ daily lives were severely disrupted.
