Newborn abandoned in pani puri cart near Indira Bridge in Ahmedabad, 2 women caught on CCTV

In a disturbing incident that has shocked residents, a two-day-old infant was allegedly abandoned in a pani puri cart near Bhat village, close to Indira Bridge, on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. Police have launched a search for two unidentified women seen fleeing the spot after leaving the baby behind.
The incident occurred near Indira Bridge, in the vicinity of Kothari Hospital, on the night of March 17. According to the police, the newborn was found in a helpless condition after locals heard the baby crying and rushed to the spot.
Officials from the Airport Police Station reached the scene promptly after receiving an alert around 9.10 pm and rescued the infant. The child was immediately shifted to the paediatric ward of Civil Hospital for medical care. Doctors have since stated that the baby is in a stable condition.
Preliminary investigation, including CCTV footage from the area, revealed that two young women had entered a narrow lane near the hospital around 8.41 pm. After ensuring that no one was watching, one of the women, who was seen carrying the infant, placed the baby inside a pani puri cart, while the other stood nearby with a bag.
“The entire act was carried out in under two minutes. The women then quickly left the area,” a police official said, adding that the efforts are under way to identify the suspects.
Police said the infant was found wrapped in a single piece of cloth when discovered by locals. The motive behind the abandonment remains unclear.
A case has been registered at the Airport Police Station, against the unidentified women, and investigators are examining various angles, including the origin of the child and the circumstances leading to the incident.
Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could help trace the women, as the probe continues into what officials described as a deeply distressing case of child abandonment.
