In a significant development for India’s high-speed rail infrastructure, a new 100-metre steel bridge was successfully launched on August 25 as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project. This latest addition, situated near Silvassa in Dadra & Nagar Haveli, represents a major milestone in the project.

This bridge is the fourth of 28 steel bridges being constructed for the Bullet Train corridor.

The bridge, weighing 1,464 metric tons and measuring 14.6 metres in height and 14.3 metres in width, was fabricated at a workshop in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. The massive steel structure was then transported to the installation site using specialised trailers.

To facilitate the installation, a temporary launching nose spanning 84 metres was utilised. This structure, along with additional support members, allowed for the bridge to be launched without intermediate supports.

The assembly process involved positioning the steel bridge and launching nose on temporary trestles, 14.5 metres above ground, before it was carefully pulled into place with two semi-automatic jacks, each with a capacity of 250 tons, using mac-alloy bars.
