New ₹166 cr bridge adjacent to Gambhira Bridge in Vadodara to be ready by 2026

Work on construction of a new bridge adjacent to the collapsed Gambhira bridge in Padra taluka of Vadodara district has commenced, with a target to complete the project within a year.
A crucial meeting in this regard was held in Gandhinagar on Monday. Following the bidding, the Roads and Buildings department awarded the tender to Gujarat’s Mangalam Construction Company for construction of the new bridge across the Mahi River, connecting Vadodara and Anand.
The construction company submitted a tender worth ₹166 crore, which was approved, and the work order was issued on August 14.
Work on developing the campsite has begun. Meanwhile, the company is moving machinery. Once the campsite is ready, foundation work will begin.
The work order specifies completion of the bridge construction by September 13, 2026.
The Gambhira bridge was an important link between the Anand and Vadodara districts.
Notably, on July 9, the 43-year-old Gambhira Bridge in Vadodara’s Padra collapsed and claimed 20 lives, with tankers, trucks, and a car plunging into the Mahi River. A chemical-filled truck, which had been dangling for a month, was removed in front of the broken bridge in August.
