New drainage project in East Ahmedabad aims to reduce monsoon flooding

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has unveiled several key civic projects aimed at improving drainage, road infrastructure, and traffic flow across the city.
Speaking after the Standing Committee meeting, AMC Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel announced that a new trunkline will be laid in the eastern part of Ahmedabad over the next two years as part of pre-monsoon preparedness works.
Additionally, measures have been planned to provide 40 percent relief from the recurring issue of ponding of water from the pumping station in the Madhumalati Odhav area. This intervention is expected to offer substantial respite to local residents during the monsoon season.
This development is expected to significantly enhance the city’s drainage capacity and reduce waterlogging during heavy rains.
To ease chronic traffic congestion, a 15-meter-wide road in the Raipur area will be widened to 24 meters. The expansion is anticipated to improve vehicular movement and reduce bottlenecks in the busy locality.
In a stern action against delays, the civic body imposed a penalty of ₹50 lakh on the contractor responsible for the Naroda Flyover project.
