New academic year begins today in Gujarat as schools reopen after summer vacation

Schools across Gujarat reopened on Monday after the summer vacation, marking the start of the academic year 2026-27 for around 1.15 crore students.
The reopening brought life back to nearly 54,000 schools across the state, including Ahmedabad, after a 35-day vacation.
Students were welcomed at schools with traditional ceremonies, with teachers greeting them with tilak and flowers at the entrance.
The excitement of meeting friends and teachers after a long break was evident across school campuses as academic activities resumed from the first day of the new session.
Officials said around 1.15 crore students attended schools on the opening day of the academic year.
Unlike previous years, when some younger students were reluctant to return to school after the vacation, many children were seen entering school premises enthusiastically and with smiles on their faces.
With the commencement of classes, schools also resumed regular academic activities, marking the beginning of a new academic session across the state.
