Nepal Gen Z protests leave Gujarati tourists, students stranded

Protesters in Nepal have carried out violent attacks, targeting the former Prime Minister’s residence and even the Parliament. As Nepal burns in turmoil, Gujarati students and tourists in the neighbouring country have been left stranded. 

To ensure their safe return, the Gujarat government is reportedly in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs.

Both the Prime Minister and the President of Nepal have resigned following nation-wide protests. In addition, the former Prime Minister’s residence was vandalised and set on fire, in which his wife is believed to have succumbed to burn injuries.

Amid this violent situation, Gujarati students studying in Nepal are trapped, along with Gujarati tourists who were visiting the country.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel shared this information on X. He wrote, “The administrative machinery of Gujarat is in constant contact with the Ministry of External Affairs of India regarding the safe return of Gujarati tourists and students caught up in incidents of political instability and violence in Nepal. the state officials have been directed accordingly.”

The state government has also released helpline number (+977-980 860 288, +977-981 032 6134). For now, Gujarati citizens have been asked to contact the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

The government has not yet provided official figures on how many Gujaratis are stranded in Nepal amid the political chaos and violent unrest.
