Neighbourhood dispute over children playing cricket turns violent in Ahmedabad, two stabbed
A dispute between neighbours over children playing cricket in a residential area of Ahmedabad’s Amraiwadi allegedly turned violent late on Sunday night, leaving three persons injured, including two men who sustained stab wounds while attempting to intervene.
According to Amraiwadi police, the incident took place at around 10.30 pm on May 31 in Mahavir Nagar, in Amraiwadi area.
Vinod Gupta (31), an electrician from Deoria district in Uttar Pradesh and currently residing in Ahmedabad, alleged that his neighbour, Ashish alias Golu Gupta, arrived at his residence along with his friend Sagar alias Pakiya Bhandekar and confronted him over children allegedly playing cricket near the locality.
Ashish objected to Gupta’s son playing cricket in the area and asked him to stop the children from playing. Gupta allegedly informed him that his son played near his own residence and would not play close to the accused’s house. Police said the discussion soon escalated into a heated argument.
The complainant alleged that Ashish became enraged, grabbed him and, along with Sagar, began assaulting him with a stick. During the altercation, Ashish allegedly pulled out a knife from his waist and attacked Gupta, causing injuries to a finger on his left hand and his leg.
Hearing the commotion, other residents gathered at the spot. Two men residing in Gupta’s house, identified as Ravi Verma and Vivek Sharma, reportedly attempted to disarm the accused and intervene in the assault.
Police said the accused allegedly stabbed Ravi Verma in the abdomen and injured Vivek Sharma on the cheek with the knife before threatening to kill everyone if Gupta’s son continued playing cricket in the area. The accused then fled the scene.
Following the incident, local residents contacted the 108 emergency ambulance service. Ravi Verma and Vivek Sharma were rushed to LG Hospital for treatment.
The complainant also informed the police control room, following which police personnel reached the spot and initiated an inquiry.
Based on Gupta’s complaint, Amraiwadi police have registered a case against Ashish alias Golu Gupta and Sagar alias Pakiya Bhandekar for assault, causing injuries and criminal intimidation. Statements of witnesses, including family members and local residents, are expected to be recorded as part of the investigation.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and recover the weapon allegedly used in the attack. No official statement regarding the arrest of the accused had been issued at the time of filing.
