Negligence or natural causes? AMC faces heat after 10 cows, calves die in Danilimda cattle pound

After the incident of 27 cows dying at Radha Krishna Panjrapol in Thol village, there have now been allegations that 10 cows and calves have died in the Amdavad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) cattle pound at Danilimda, Ahmedabad. It has been alleged that these deaths occurred due to the negligence of the AMC, and a written application has been submitted to Danilimda police station.
Despite AMC officials’ claim that the animals died of natural causes, a post-mortem report reportedly revealed the presence of 12 kgs of plastic in the stomach of a bull.
According to reports, around 9 am on Tuesday morning, information surfaced that about ten cows and calves had died due to illness in the cattle pound. Following this, leaders of the Maldhari community reached the AMC to submit a representation.
Denied from seeing the dead cows and calves, the maldharis informed the police control room. Once the police arrived at the scene, the dead cows and calves were shown to them.
According to Divyesh Solanki, an official of the CNCD (Cattle Nuisance Control Department), there are currently about 950 cows, calves, and bulls housed in the Danilimda cattle pound.
Around 9 am, during a routine check-up, some cattle rearers entered the pound and created disruption in official work, taking photos and videos of the dead animals and circulating them on social media. “I was personally present at the site,” said Solanki. “Among the dead animals, one cow was suffering from pneumonia. The deceased also included two bulls and seven calves.”
He further stated that the allegations of negligence made by cattle rearers are baseless. Post-mortems of all the dead animals were conducted in the presence of the cattle owners.
