Updated: Sep 12th, 2024

Gujarat will host a National Lok Adalat on September 14,which will take place at the Gujarat High Court and various district and taluka courts across the state. This special court session aims to help resolve a large number of pending cases by encouraging settlements through negotiations/conciliation.

The Lok Adalat will address both ongoing legal cases and pre-litigation disputes. Pre-litigation cases are those where disagreements exist but no formal lawsuit has been filed yet. This initiative is designed to resolve these issues before they escalate to formal court cases.

In addition to resolving these disputes, the Lok Adalat will also handle traffic challans which can be submitted online or offline.

The event will be overseen by Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal of the Gujarat High Court and Justice Biren Vaishnav, Executive Chairman of the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority.

The National Legal Services Authority and the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority will manage the proceedings.

The Lok Adalat will focus on a variety of cases, including:

Cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Section 138

Criminal disputes

Matrimonial disputes, such as divorce cases

Anyone interested in participating in the Lok Adalat or seeking more information is encouraged to contact their nearest district legal services committee office. They can also visit the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority website or call the toll-free number 15100 for assistance.
