A woman from Nashik has lodged a serious complaint with the Gujarat Police, alleging that she, her teenage daughter, and brother were kidnapped at gunpoint, held hostage, sexually assaulted, and extorted by a group of individuals impersonating as police officers in Ahmedabad’s Anandnagar area.

According to the complaint filed by Rekha (40) (name changed), a resident of Nashik, the incident occurred on March 3 when she was returning from a pilgrimage to the Kashtabhanjan Maruti Temple in Sarangpur, Bhavnagar, along with her daughter and brother. Also accompanying them was Darshit Shah, an acquaintance from Gujarat, and several others.

Held at gunpoint, forced to sign cheques

In her detailed statement to the police, Rekha claimed that near Anandnagar highway, the group was intercepted by a gang of 10 to 15 individuals, some of whom demanded money from Shah. One of them, who identified himself as Darshan Mehta, allegedly summoned a police car. Soon after, a vehicle with ‘Police’ markings and a red beacon arrived, carrying a man and a woman in police uniform.

The woman alleged that she, her daughter, and brother were forcibly taken in the police vehicle and driven to the Anandnagar police station. There, their mobile phones and personal belongings were confiscated. She further stated that despite repeated pleas, they were not allowed inside the station premises but were instead kept outside in the police vehicle.

Subsequently, the group was taken to an unidentified bungalow near Karnavati crossroads, where the woman and her daughter were allegedly confined inside the car and subjected to obscene behaviour by Mehta and his accomplice. She accused them of molesting her and her daughter, intimidating them at gunpoint, and forcibly taking her signature on blank Axis Bank cheques.

The accused also allegedly extorted ₹30,000 in cash from her purse before releasing them under threat, warning them not to report the incident.

Delayed complaint amid fear and harassment

The woman claimed that after returning to Nashik, she remained silent for several days out of fear, but continued to face harassment from the accused, who allegedly kept calling and threatening her.

On May 10, she approached the police and formally lodged her complaint, detailing the entire ordeal. Based on her statement, an FIR has been registered under charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, criminal intimidation, extortion, and impersonation.

The case has been handed over officals for further investigation. Police officials confirmed that the FIR was read out to the complainant and a copy was provided to her as per legal procedure. Apart from an application was filled at the Anandnagar police station against the woman regarding cheating, that will be also be investigated.

Authorities have assured that a thorough probe is underway to verify the allegations, identify all involved, and take appropriate action.
