Narol police seize nearly 3 kg ganja, arrest two Bihar natives, Odisha supplier named in probe

Narol Police have arrested two men and seized nearly 3 kg of ganja valued at ₹1.49 lakh following a raid based on a tip-off near the Dharmabhumi–Bharatnagar Road in Ahmedabad's Narol on Thursday. The operation was carried out under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with investigators also probing the alleged source of the contraband in Odisha.
According to Narol Police, the raid was conducted after the police received specific intelligence that two individuals carrying narcotic substances were moving towards the Dharmabhumi Bungalows area.
A raiding team led by Police Inspector A R Chaudhary, accompanied by police personnel and two government-appointed panch witnesses, laid a watch near Bharatnagar Road at around 3.30 pm on June 4.
Police said two men matching the description provided by the informer were intercepted near the Narol village bridge. One of them was carrying a trolley bag.
The accused were identified as Durgesh Kumar Jagdish Singh Rajput (19), a labourer from Bihar, and Jaishankar Ramnath Dubey (30), originally from Bihar and presently residing in Narol village, Ahmedabad.
During the search of the trolley bag allegedly carried by Durgesh Kumar, police recovered three khaki-coloured parcels wrapped in BOPP tape. On opening the parcels, officers found a green plant-based substance which the accused allegedly identified as ganja.
Subsequently, officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were called to examine the material. Preliminary testing conducted by the FSL officer confirmed that the substance appeared to be cannabis (ganja), police said.
The seized contraband was weighed using a digital weighing scale and found to be 2.99 kg, with an estimated market value of ₹1.49 lakh.
Police also recovered two Samsung mobile phones worth ₹10,000, cash amounting to ₹1,130, an Aadhaar card, train tickets and other articles. The total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹1.60 lakh
During questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that they had procured the ganja from a person identified as Nirav Dalei, a resident of Odisha. Police have named the alleged supplier in the case and are investigating the wider network involved in the transportation and distribution of narcotics.
An FIR has been registered under Sections of the NDPS Act, relating to possession, transportation and criminal conspiracy involving narcotic substances.
Both accused have been arrested, while further investigation is being carried out by Narol police to establish the source, supply chain and intended recipients of the seized contraband.
