Naroda residents suffer red-stained feet due to suspected airborne chemical pollution

In a troubling development near the industrial area in Naroda, residents have reported that their feet are turning red, believed to be the result of airborne chemical contamination. The situation has sparked outrage, with many pointing to alleged negligence by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB).
Distressed by the unusual condition, several residents filed online complaints with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). In response, AMC clarified that the issue was not linked to the city's water supply.
To draw attention to the matter, affected residents shared photos and videos on social media showing their red-stained feet. This prompted the AMC’s North Zone officials to initiate an investigation, dispatching teams to inspect locations where complaints had been lodged.
Gopal Patel, Additional City Engineer of the zone, reiterated that AMC’s water supply was not the cause. However, during inspections, a startling observation was made when water was sprayed on parked vehicles in the area, it turned red on contact. This pointed to the presence of airborne chemical particles settling on surfaces and potentially causing skin discoloration.
Preliminary findings suggest that illegal chemical emissions could be to blame.
