Narcotics worth ₹110 Cr in Gujarat’s Mundra seized by customs

The Special Intelligence and Investigation Branch (SIIB) of Mundra Customs seized a consignment of narcotics worth ₹110 crore on July 28.
Following the incident, the customs department has initiated a probe in Rajkot, Gandhinagar, and Gandhidham after intercepting two export consignments from Rajkot destined for West Africa.
Based on a tip-off, two consignments of a Rajkot-based trader, destined for Sierra Leone and Niger, were intercepted and examined.
A detailed examination revealed boxes containing undeclared medicine strips, both 'Tramakeing 225' and 'Royal-225', both containing Tramadol Hydrochloride 225 mg, an opioid.
Neither the strips nor the boxes had any details of the manufacturer. During the investigation, the officials recovered approximately 68 lakh Tramadol tablets worth ₹110 crore in the international market.
Tramadol is a psychotropic substance and the export of Tramadol is prohibited under Section 8(c) of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, 1985.
Shores of Gujarat have been dealing with the nuisance of drug peddling in recent times. A week ago, 21 packets of charas worth ₹12 cr seized near Mithapur shore in Devbhumi Dwarka. Before that, the district police had seized approximately 23.68 kg of charas on July 20.
