Gujarat’s fight with drugs continues, narcotics seized in Ahmedabad and Bharuch
Drugs worth ₹19.41 lakh were seized from Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar
Over three kilograms of drugs were seized from Valia in Bharuch
Frequent cases of drug peddling have recently surfaced in Gujarat. Today, in two separate incidents, drugs were seized by the authorities in Ahmedabad and Bharuch.
Drugs worth ₹19.41 lakh were seized from Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar, whereas over three kilograms of drugs were seized from Valia in Bharuch.
The tip-off and arrests
The Special Operation Group (SOG) was tipped off about two people in Bapunagar with drugs. Acting on it, the SOG nabbed the two suspects and 194 gm of MDMA drug was seized from them, accounting for ₹19.41 lakh.
The accused were identified as Saadiq alias Babu Ansari and Ruksanabanu alias Aisha Ansari. Upon questioning, they revealed that the drugs were from a Mumbai-based supplier, and they were supposed to sell it in Ahmedabad.
In Bharuch, the CID crime’s raid in Valia uncovered a drug network, seizing more than three kilograms of drugs and arresting one.
The accused is being questioned about the source and the destination of the drugs.
Gujarat’s war on drugs
Minister of state for home, Harsh Sanghvi, said on Oct 24 that the state police department has been fiercely combating the menace of illegal drug trading.
His remarks had come in the wake of a recent crackdown wherein a Surat-based chemical engineer and others were arrested in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad, and narcotics valued at ₹500 crore were recovered.
“This is not just a drive, it is a war against drug lords. Our mission will only conclude once we eradicate this scourge from society. Anyone in Gujarat overstepping the law will face stringent legal consequences,” said Sanghavi.
