Naranpura police arrest woman in house burglary case, recover gold jewellery worth ₹8 lakh

The Naranpura police in Ahmedabad have solved a house burglary case within days of the complaint being filed, arresting a 40-year-old woman and recovering stolen gold ornaments worth ₹8.1 lakh, according to police officials.
The case pertains to a burglary reported by Jinal Chandrakantbhai Shah (37), a resident of Shubhalakshmi Tower, opposite Sanghvi High School in Naranpura. Shah had approached Naranpura Police Station on February 14 after discovering that gold jewellery belonging to his family had gone missing from his mother’s cupboard.
According to police, the theft occurred on the evening of February 8, when Shah’s relative, Mansiben Jineshbhai Doshi, visited the house. In his complaint, Shah stated that Doshi had entered his mother’s bedroom under the pretext of changing clothes and left shortly thereafter. No one else had visited the house during that period, and there was no sign of forced entry.
On February 12, Shah’s mother noticed that the cupboard had been disturbed and several gold ornaments were missing. The stolen items included two gold bangles weighing around three tolas, a gold mangalsutra and two gold rings, collectively valued at ₹8.1 lakh.
Initially, Doshi allegedly attempted to deflect suspicion by claiming that the jewellery might still be in the house and even produced a box containing imitation ornaments. However, Shah grew suspicious and subsequently lodged a formal complaint.
A team was formed under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1), Dr Harshad Patel, and Assistant Commissioner of Police J.D. Brahmabhatt. The investigation was led by Police Inspector V J Chavda, with the Naranpura surveillance squad playing a key role.
Based on specific inputs, officers traced the suspect and conducted a sustained interrogation. During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to the theft, following which the stolen jewellery was recovered from her possession.
