Multiple road accidents in and around Gujarat takes several lives in 48 hours
A total of 11 deaths and 53 injured persons were reported over the weekend at Surat, Rajkot, Surendranagar and Shamlaji.

In a spate of rising road accidents, a series of tragic highway accidents have come to light from different locations in and around Gujarat in just 48 hours.
A total of 11 deaths and 53 injured persons were reported over the weekend at Surat, Rajkot, Surendranagar and Shamlaji.
Bus accident in Surendranagar
In Surendranagar, a bus overturned near Vana village in Lakhtar taluka when a state bus that was en route to Junagadh from Deodar, overturned in the wee hours of Oct 16.
More than 40 passengers were injured, and were shifted to the hospital for treatment.
Investigating officer Nitindan Gadhavi informed, “A state transport bus carrying police trainees returning from their deputy section officer exam met with an accident. Early findings indicate that driver negligence was the primary cause of the mishap.”
“Our immediate focus was on transporting the injured to hospital. Most of the injured are at Surendranagar hospital, while one individual has been sent to an Ahmedabad hospital,” an official said.
In another accident that occurred this morning, 10 passengers suffered minor injuries after the ST bus overturned near Santalpur, Patan.
Rajkot’s hit and run case
In a separate incident, a case of hit and run was reported in Rajkot on the on 150 ft ring road.
Two girls were on a two-wheeler when a truck driver hit the girl’s vehicle. One of the girls died on the spot while the other girl was shifted to a nearby hospital.
The truck driver fled from the spot. The police have registered a case and are further probing the accident.
Garba night turns tragic in Surat
In Surat, three friends met with a severe accident in which one of them died and two were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The trio was returning from a garba event and were riding on the same bike.
Accident on the Gujarat-Rajasthan border
On Oct 15, an MUV (multi-utility vehicle) reportedly carrying passengers from Rajasthan was rammed by a truck near the Ratanpur border.
Seven people died on the spot and eight sustained injuries in a collision between the truck and the vehicle carrying labourers from Rajasthan to Ahmedabad in Rajasthan’s Dungarpur.
The number increased to nine as one of the injured succumbed to death. The injured were immediately shifted to Bichhiwara and Shamlaji for treatment, while two other passengers were shifted to Himmatnagar due to serious injuries.
