In a major step towards bolstering disaster preparedness, the Ahmedabad district administration in collaboration with Ahmedabad Rural Police and other line departments, on Sunday launched a district-wide, multi-agency mock drill spanning over 500 villages and all urban zones of the district.

A total of 83 locations were designated as mock drill centres, each supervised by a designated in-charge and supported by a team of six to seven personnel. The teams comprise representatives from the Police Department, Health Department, Fire and Emergency Services, Revenue Department, Civil Defence volunteers, and local administration units.

Each mock drill cluster covers five to six villages, with volunteers mobilised from all constituent areas to ensure broad-based community participation. According to officials, the initiative is aimed at enhancing inter-departmental coordination, strengthening field-level response systems, and promoting public engagement in emergency scenarios.

District officials said the drill involved real-time simulations to test the preparedness of various departments in handling crisis situations such as natural disasters, fires, and other emergencies.

“This is a crucial initiative to test our readiness and ensure that every agency and citizen knows their role in times of crisis. The goal is to create a robust response mechanism that functions seamlessly under pressure,” a senior official from the district administration said.

The exercise, conducted simultaneously across urban and rural pockets, underscores the administration’s emphasis on decentralised planning and community-led disaster management.
