MSc student, hostelmates assaulted in late-night attack in Ahmedabad, FIR lodged

Ahmedabad Police have lodged a case after a group of unidentified men and a woman allegedly entered the compound of a private hostel near V S Hospital in Ellisbridge in the late hours of Monday and assaulted students, leaving at least two injured.
According to the complaint filed by Krish Patel (19), a fifth-semester M Sc IT student at J G University residing at D K P Hostel, the incident occurred around 1.30 am when he stepped out of his room to use the washroom. Patel told police that two unknown youths, who had illegally entered the hostel premises, began hurling abuses at him without provocation.
A few minutes later, Patel’s hostelmate, Prince Bharatbhai Patel, was attacked with a stick by the same duo in the compound. When Krish attempted to intervene, he too was assaulted with a wooden stick, sustaining injuries on his left hand and waist.
Shortly afterwards, two more youths and a woman entered the premises, damaged the door and glass window of another student, Gopal Patel’s room, and issued death threats before fleeing the spot.
Several hostel residents reportedly witnessed the attack and called the police control room. The accused, however, escaped before a police team reached the hostel.
Police said that the victims suffered minor injuries and are undergoing treatment. An FIR has been registered at Ellisbridge police station under charges of unlawful entry, assault, criminal intimidation and property damage.
“We have identified some suspects, and efforts are on to trace them. Statements of the complainant and other hostel students have been recorded,” a senior police officer said.
The Ellisbridge police are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity to establish the sequence of events and identify the accused.
