Mother-son held with MD drugs worth ₹7.4 lakh in Ahmedabad’s Fatehwadi

The Vejalpur police on Wednesday arrested a woman and her son for allegedly trafficking mephedrone (MD) drugs in the Fatehwadi area of Ahmedabad, seizing narcotics worth ₹7.40 lakh along with a two-wheeler, mobile phones and cash. The total value of the seized contraband and other articles is pegged at ₹7.74 lakh, police said.

The arrests were made following a tip-off by a police patrol team of the Vejalpur Police Station that a man and a woman were ferrying narcotics on a white two-wheeler from Lokhandwala Party Plot in Fatehwadi towards Amber Tower via the Savera Hotel stretch. Acting on the information, the police laid a watch near the Savera Hotel three-road junction and intercepted the two-wheeler matching the description.

The accused were identified as Samimbanu alias Pappi Pathan (54) and her son Mominkhan Firozkhan Pathan (25), residents of Kumbhargali (Masjidgali) in Kalupur, Ahmedabad. Upon searching them, the police recovered 246.8 grams of mephedrone, estimated to be worth ₹7.40 lakh

In addition to the MD drugs, the police seized two mobile phones, ₹4,500 in cash and the two-wheeler used for transportation of the contraband. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the narcotics had been allegedly supplied to the accused by a woman identified as Sirin Allarakha, a resident of Fatehwadi. Based on this, the police have also named her as an accused in the case.

A case has been registered at the Vejalpur Police Station under Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation has been is going on.

Police records show that Samimbanu Pathan has a criminal history, including a prohibition-related offence registered at Sanand Police Station and is also wanted in an NDPS case registered by the DCB police station. Her son, Mominkhan Pathan, has previously been booked in cases involving assault and offences under the Gujarat Police Act at Kalupur police station.

The Vejalpur police said further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and identify other persons involved in the illegal drug trade.
