A 57-year-old electrician who recently returned from the United Arab Emirates was allegedly robbed of a gold chain worth ₹4.5 lakh by two unidentified motorcycle-borne men while he was on his morning walk in Ahmedabad’s Chandkheda area.
According to Chandkheda police, the incident occurred around 6.10 am on May 30 on the road in front of Kaladham Flats. Kamlesh Kumar Raval, a resident of Chandkheda, alleged that two men riding a motorcycle approached him from behind and snatched the gold chain from his neck before fleeing towards the Gandhinagar Highway.
Raval, who had been working as an electrician with the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation in Abu Dhabi, told police that he had returned to India on April 26 this year. He had left his residence early in the morning for his routine walk when the incident took place.
Raval stated that the pillion rider suddenly grabbed and yanked the chain from his neck, breaking it before the duo sped away. The stolen chain, weighing approximately 30 grams and valued at around ₹4.5 lakh, was made of 24-carat gold and had been purchased by him in Abu Dhabi.
He could not note down the motorcycle’s registration number. He described the rider as wearing a black helmet, while the pillion rider had covered his head with a handkerchief. Both suspects were said to be of medium build.
Police have registered a case of chain-snatching against two unidentified persons and launched an investigation.
Officers are examining CCTV footage from the area and other available leads to identify and trace the accused.
