In yet another case of reckless driving on Ahmedabad roads, a 45-year-old moped rider was killed and another was injured after an unidentified speeding vehicle rammed into them under the Odhav Ring Road bridge late on Sunday night.

According to the Odhav Traffic Police, the incident occurred around 11.45 pm on November 9 when the victim, identified as Govind Parmar, was riding his moped with Shailesh Parmar seated behind him. The duo was passing under the Odhav Ring Road intersection bridge when an unidentified vehicle hit their moped from behind at high speed.

Due to the impact, both riders were thrown off the vehicle. Govind Parmar sustained severe injuries and died on the spot, while Shailesh Parmar suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police said the vehicle fled the scene after the collision. The body of the deceased was later sent for post-mortem examination.

Based on a complaint lodged by Maheshbhai Parmar, a relative of the deceased and a resident of Odhav, the I Traffic Police Station, Ahmedabad City, has registered a case against the unidentified driver under Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

A senior traffic police officer said, “We have registered a case against an unknown vehicle driver. CCTV footage from the area and nearby toll points is being examined to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.”

The accident site, located below the Odhav Ring Road crossroads, was inspected by officers from the I Traffic Police Station. Police have launched a further investigation to trace the vehicle and its driver responsible for the fatal crash.
