Monsoon arrives in Ahmedabad, causes waterlogging, one dies from electrocution
Several districts of Gujarat saw heavy rainfall with Bhavnagar Palitana reaching 11.5 inches

After a searing summer, heavy rain brought relief across Ahmedabad, and several districts of Gujarat.
A storm uprooted at least 15 trees in several areas, including Kankaria, Maninagar, Astodia, and Vadaj, though no injuries were reported. Low-lying areas like Saijpur-Garnala were waterlogged. The Mithakhali underpass was closed to traffic at 7.55 pm after 1.5 feet of water had accumulated.
Between 6 am and 9 pm, Ramol recorded over 2.5 inches of rainfall. Bodakdev and Jodhpur areas received 45 mm of rain. By 9 pm, the city had recorded an average rainfall of 39.10 mm, bringing the season’s cumulative rainfall to 6.76 inches.
During this period, Ramol recorded 22.50 mm, Vatva 10 mm, Chakudiya 12 mm, Odhav 12 mm, Kathwada 10.50 mm, and Viratnagar 10 mm of rainfall. By 7 pm, dark, heavy clouds returned, bringing another spell of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Commuters returning home from work found themselves stranded as rain poured down across areas like SG Highway and more.
Saijpur-Garnala was once again waterlogged, causing trouble for both pedestrians and vehicles. Eastern areas like Ramol, Kathwada, Nikol, Viratnagar, and Odhav—being low-lying—were also waterlogged. In Malinagar and Vatva, the downpour created severe disruptions. Areas like Paldi, Usmanpura, Chandkheda, Vasna, Gota, Ranip, and Bodakdev also reported waterlogging following heavy rainfall.

Civil Hospital area also affected by rain
The heavy evening rainfall also created difficulties in the Civil Hospital area of Asarwa. According to credible sources, the rain disrupted operations at a critical time when bodies from the plane crash were being handed over to the relatives of the deceased. The bereaved families had to wait under specially arranged tents for the rain to stop before proceeding with formalities.
20-year-old Jashraj Jagdishbhai Gohil was electrocuted near a power pole at the entrance of Dudhwaali Pol in the Gheekanta area, according to reliable sources.
Over 200 talukas in Gujarat saw heavy rainfall
Bhavnagar's Palitana witnessed the highest rainfall at 11.5 inches, and 70 talukas reported at least 1 inch of rain. In Bhavnagar, 10 inches of rain fell in six hours.
Saurashtra districts, including Amreli, Botad, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, and Rajkot, witnessed maximum rainfall.
