Blunders during practise session of an e-demo in the assembly

E-Vidhan Sabha was inaugurated in Gujarat assembly today in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu.

A practice session for this was organised on Sept 12 in the assembly, where the MLAs turned out to be beginners in keeping up with using the latest technology.

Many assembly members, including the speaker, Shankar Chaudhary, and finance minister Kanubhai Desai, required assistance from personnel to guide them through the operations of the tablet provided to them. The government and opposition carried out the questioning through these tablets.

Gujarat Vidhan Sabha (state legislative assembly) is going to be paperless from the next session. All the work done by the members of legislative assembly (MLAs) in the Vidhan Sabha will be done through tablets now, with every necessary information at their fingertips.

The short session in Sept 2023 will see the Vidhan Sabha shaping into E-Vidhan Sabha, and the preparations for the same are already underway. The MLAs are being trained to use tablet devices.

From notices, questionnaires, budgets, laws, and asking questions to the public of their constituencies, all the work would be done through these tablets, with special access to the MLAs.

The MLAs would also be able to write suggestions or letters to the Speaker through their devices. 

The estimated cost of tablets for the E-Vidhan Sabha is likely to be ₹2.5 crore. A seminar in August will help the MLAs get familiar with the technology. The training will be provided by 35 engineers from the science and technology department.
